dido, queen of carthage

Part of tonight's Aeneid book chat centered on Dido, naturally.

Here is the Wikipedia write-up (as usual handle with care), Dido (Queen of Carthage), which includes a list of musical and literary treatments, and Sid Meier's strategy game Civilization II, Dido as the female leader of the Carthaginian tribe.

Nicely illustrated, including a Rubens painting … would this Dido really have attracted Aeneas?  ;-)
