Our final chat on Pride of Carthage, A Novel of Hannibal by David Anthony Durham is on July 5.
Last time, we ended with the battle of Cannae.
However, we have not spend much time so far on the secondary characters, such as the Barca brood and their mother, or on Imco, Aradna, and so on.
This second section also introduces the story of Sophonisba and Massinissa.
Another point of discussion might be the ending of the book, that is, why does the story end with the defeated Hannibal's return to Carthage? Why is the epilogue about Aradna and not about Hannibal's later life, or his death?
And finally: Does the title truly represent the story?
