from the toynbee convector
Some recent posts over on the Toynbee Convector which may be of interest:
The Disadvantages of A Classical Education. Toynbee's reflections on the deleterious effect of Greek and Latin on his English style.
Divisions of the Roman Republic and Empire. A list of the territorial divisions of the Republic and Empire.
Julian's Failure. Why Julian's attempted restoration of paganism was flawed. The post includes a Coptic icon of St. Mercurius killing Julian.

Thank you for the link. I have added this comment at the end of the classical education post:
This passage really refers to one disadvantage, though I refer to disadvantages in the plural.
There are, in fact, two passages referring to “unfortunate effects”. He heads this passage “Effects on my Writing of English”. There is a subsequent, and much longer, passage headed “Effects on the Range of my Knowledge”, which I will quote later.

I do agree with you, Judith. Here is the the book link. There is also a book by our friend Adrian Murdoch: The Last Pagan : Julian the Apostate and the Death of the Ancient World

There's an excellent book by G.W. Bowersock ( Julian The Apostate) that gives a fascinating account of Julian's flaws, especially the chapter 'The Puritanical Pagan': one would have thought that his puritanical nature would be a help against Christian invective, but it wasn't.
